Easy and Delicious Upside-Down Apple Pastries

Delicious and quick, sticky and crispy pastries simply made with apple slices, a touch of honey, and flaky puff pastry

Print Recipe

Looking for an irresistible, pretty, and super-easy dessert that requires only FOUR ingredients?!?

Look no further. These apple puff pastries are precisely what you’re looking for.

It goes without saying that I just love apple desserts, all year around!

My apple roses, apple crostata, classic apple pie, apple crumble, ricotta and apple cake, soft and moist apple cake … Ok, ok. You got me.

But what’s not to love about healthy and naturally sweet apples layered over crispy pastry?!?

Wholesome and comforting. And tasting just like apple pie!

These delightful treats are a perfect combination of crispy puff pastry, sticky caramelized apples, and a touch of sweetness. They are great for breakfast, snack or dessert.

And they are quite versatile and easy to customize to your flavors.

You can make these with slices of peach, pear, fig, plum… And you can top almond slices, crushed hazelbuts or pistachios. And serve with icecream, whipped cream or just by themselves!

The best part? They are incredibly easy to make and require very few ingredients that you most likely already have in your kitchen.

All you have to do to make this recipe is drizzle some honey on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, top with apple slices, more honey, and top with a piece of puff pastry that covers the apple.

Brush with egg wash and bake.

Once they are golden and puffy, remove them from the oven and let them cool down just for 2 minutes or so. With a spatula, gently lift them up and flip them. If the edges are not golden enough you can place them back in the oven (downside up) and bake for 3 or 4 more minutes until golden.

Sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 apples, thinly sliced
  • about 6 tablespoon honey
  • 1 puff pastry sheet, rolled out and cut into 8 rectangles
  • 1 small egg, for eggwash
  • powdered sugar for dusting, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400F. Remove the core and finely slice the apples.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Drizzle with about 1 teaspoon of honey, top with 6 to 8 apple slices, slightly overlapping. Drizzle with one more teaspoon of honey. Cover with a rectangular piece of puff pastry (slightly bigger than the apple) and press down the edges to seal. Repeat with the other 7 pastries, spacing them out on the baking sheet.
  3. Beat the egg with one tablespoon of water. Brush the pastries with the egg wash. And bake at 400F for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden and puffy.
  4. Let the pastries cool down for 3 or 4 minutes and gently flip them with a spatula. If the edges are not gold enough, you can place them back in the oven for 2 or 3 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy!
