Your kids are going to love this Halloween treat.

So easy that your kids will want to make it all by themselves.
Halloween Mummy and Ghost Chocolate Pretzels

If you are looking for a quick, last minute Halloween party idea you've come to the right place.
This recipe has it all. The irresistible sweet and salty combination. The shortest list of ingredients. AND it really is a fun Halloween project to do with your kids, ready in no time!

For this recipe, you could use store-bought googly eyes. But those are not as cheap as making your own, and definitely not as cute.
Homemade eyes are really fun. Each is different from the next, giving character to these little chocolate guys.
You can find how to make these googly eyes here (no raw eggs and no meringue powder).

FEW USEFUL TIPS:

- You don't have to use the coconut oil if you don't have it but I find it helps with melting the chocolate and keep it smooth.

- After you microwave the chocolate make sure to take your time and whisk well. It will melt while mixing. Add extra time in the microwave only if needed, and the chocolate is not fully melted after at least one minute of mixing. You don't want to over-microwave it or it might burn at the bottom.
Note, every microwave is different, so you might adjust the time based on your settings.

- Work in small batches so the chocolate will not harden before you attach the eyes. If it happens just add a little dollop of melted chocolate where the eyes go.

- If the chocolate in the bowl starts to harden, place back in the microwave for 15 more seconds. Mix well.

Ingredients

  • 1 bag (10 oz) white candy melts (or white chocolate chips)
  • 1/4 teaspoon coconut oil (optional)
  • mini pretzel twists and pretzel rods
  • googly eyes

Instructions

  1. Place the candy melts or chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl with the coconut oil (if using). Microwaved at 75% power for about 45 seconds. Stir well for one minute or longer. Add 10 more seconds only if needed (careful not to burn the chocolate at the bottom).
  2. Using a fork or kitchen pliers, dip the pretzels in the melted chocolate to coat the pretzel twists and half of the rods. Let the excess chocolate drip in the bowl. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Working on a few pretzels at a time, add the googly eyes so they stick to the chocolate when still wet. If the chocolate hardens before you're done, microwave for 15 more seconds. Stir well.
  4. To make the mummies: wait for the chocolate to set on the pretzels. Spoon some of the melted chocolate in a zipper or piping bag. Drizzle over the set pretzels in a zig zag motion.
  5. Let the chocolate set. Once hardened, you can remove the pretzels from the paper and store in an air-tight container. Or enjoy right away!
